The Munich air disaster took place on 6 February 1958, when British European Airways Flight 609 crashed in attempt to take off from a slushy runway at the airport in Munich, West Germany. On board the plane was the Manchester United football team, along with a number of supporters and journalists. 20 of the 44 people on board the aircraft died in the crash, three more later died in hospital.  Amongst the dead were eight Manchester United players and three club officials.  At the time of the crash, Manchester United were the most exciting team England had ever seen and had been champions of England for two years in a row.

United eventually rose again and within a decade their manager, Matt Busby, who had been seriously injured in the crash, had built a new team that became the first English club to win the European Cup when they defeated Benfica 4-1 at Wembley in 1968.

Busby later described that night as “the greatest and most memorable event of my life. The moment that Bobby Charlton took the European Cup it, well, cleansed me,” he said.”It eased the pain of guilt I had of taking the club into Europe. It was my justification.”  Busby was not a man known to shed tears but many people saw him cry that day — May 29, 1968. A dream he thought had died with the team in the snow of Munich, had finally come true after all.

You cannot help be touched by the emotional outpouring in the Stadium while We’ll Never Die is chanted, and the opportunity to witness such feeling  has to be seen as an added value to your Manchester United tickets.

In October, Manchester United plays at Liverpool, the most successful club in the history of English football.  Liverpool has won more trophies than any other English club. FC Chelsea is considered one of the most talented in Europe, with the club having won three league titles, three FA Cups, three League Cups and two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups!  The club’s home ground is the 42,360 capacity Stamford Bridge football ground in Fulham, south-west London.  Chelsea’s normal seat allocation for Away Games is only about three thousand.

Chances of a member of the general public being able to get tickets to either the Chelsea or the Liverpool match is likely to be nil.

Even the most devoted Manchester United fan can find trying to obtain tickets frustrating. Perhaps a member of One United might get lucky and get a ticket through their lottery system, but most will have to try the big ticketing agencies, which will charge not only high prices, but also a hefty service fee.
